Today marks Luis' 20th birthday and I couldn't be more proud. I suppose for all the challenges and heartaches I have come to witness in my young life, there are less than a handful I would consider the right decisions. Raising Luis is one of them.

In some ways I don't really know how I did it and how fast it happened. I am just grateful that Luis is the young man he is. Never once was I called to the principal's office, never had any fear of substance abuse or mischievous acts. Life threw me a curve ball and I must admit Luis felt the brunt of it. I can only imagine how tough it was for him as well. Nevertheless here we are twenty years after. He is one year shy of his Bachelor's degree and already he is a published artist. He is way ahead of me at that age and I can only see the future is bright. Surely, in 20 years time you'd be everything I've ever wanted to be.

Happy Birthday my dearest Luis. You make us all so proud. And, we can't wait for Ethan to follow your lead for you are such an inspiration. I love you dearly.
